Melty Savory Cheese Butter Sandwiches
Buttery, herb-infused sandwiches with gooey melted cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese—perfect as a cozy snack or appetizer.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
- 1 teaspoon lemon pepper (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb narrow loaf unsliced bread (such as French)
- 8 oz cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese, sliced into 1½-inch squares
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a small bowl, mix softened butter or margarine with basil, oregano, lemon pepper (if using), and minced garlic until well combined.
- Slice the bread into 1-inch thick slices.
- Spread the savory butter mixture generously on one side of each bread slice.
- Place a piece of cheese between two buttered sides of bread slices to create sandwiches.
- Wrap the stacked sandwiches tightly in aluminum foil to keep them moist while baking.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese has fully melted and the bread is warm.
- Carefully unwrap and serve warm as a flavorful snack or side.
