Hearty French Onion Casserole
A comforting casserole combining savory ground beef, tender rice, and rich French onion and mushroom soups, enhanced with fresh celery, green onions, and bell pepper for a tasty one-dish meal.
Ingredients
lean ground beef
uncooked white rice
condensed French onion soup (10.5 ounces)
condensed cream of mushroom soup (10.75 ounces)
chopped celery
chopped green onions
chopped green bell pepper
water or beef broth
salt and black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, breaking it up into crumbles. Drain excess fat.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, uncooked rice, French onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, chopped celery, green onions, green bell pepper, and water or beef broth. Stir well to combine.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and spread evenly.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the casserole is bubbly.
- Remove foil during the last 10 minutes to allow the top to brown slightly.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
